Delhi– City Tour
Today city tour of Old Delhi, the 17th century walled city of royal Shah Jahanabad, visiting the great Jama Masjid, the principal mosque of Old Delhi. Later we walk down or take a rickshaw ride through Chandi Chowk, the old marketplace of Shah Jahanabad now a picturesque bazaar. Drive past Red Fort, built in the year 1648 by Shah Jehan. Afternoon attention focuses on New Delhi, visit Humayun's Tomb, memorial of Mughal Emperor Humayun, Qutub Minar, built by Qutub-ud-din Aibek. It is the tallest (72m) brick minaret in the world, an important example of Indo-Islamic Architecture. Drive past India Gate, memorial built in the year 1931 to commemorate the Indian soldiers who died in the World War I & the Afghan Wars. Delhi – Samode - Jaipur (275 Kms /06 hrs)
Today drive to Jaipur, en-route visit Samode Palace, it was transformed into one the country's premium palace hotels in 1987, and is a perfect example of Rajput-Mughal architecture. Morning drive to Agra, stop en-route for visiting of Fatehpur Sikri (Ghost Capital), the political capital of India's Mughal Empire under Akbar's reign, from the year 1571 until 1585, when it was abandoned, ostensibly due to lack of water. Visit Emperor Akbars Residential complex, Mosque & Tomb of Salim Chisti. Continue you journey overland and drive to Agra, beautifully situated on the banks of river Yamuna. Today in time transfer to Agra railway station to connect Shatabadi Express for Jhansi at 0817 hrs. Arrive Jhansi at 1043 hrs. & drive to Khajuraho (172 Klm /4 hrs), en-route visit Orcha Fort- the erstwhile capital city of the Bundela rulers. The town is steeped in history and is famous for its palaces and temples built in the 16th and 17th centuries. The architectural splendor of the monuments in Orchha reflects the glory of its rulers.
